Welcome to May! Besides Cinco de Mayo, it also happens to be Celiac Disease Awareness Month.
It surely is challenging enough to be diagnosed with one autoimmune disease – try two on for size. If you’re living with Celiac disease and Type 1 diabetes, you’re certainly not alone. Approximately 1 in 10 people living with T1D also have Celiac disease because they share a common genetic link.

Kim Vlasnik is the mastermind behind the You Can Do This Project where she has a large selection of videos created by people like you and me. Her hope is that you’ll find her project as a place that provides “validation, hope and encouragement through honest talk.”
I was offered the opportunity to speak about life with Celiac disease and Type 1 diabetes in the You Tube video that’s posted below. Along with Andrea, Wendy, Addy, Brianna, and Dana. (I love the faces Addy makes in the video – she was awesome.)
This video holds six people’s unique (and common) views about living with both of these autoimmune diseases. Please take a peek and see for yourself. Bravo to Sara and Kim for putting this together – and thank you for inviting me to be a part of it!
